Remembrance Day, as we know, is a time to remember the soldiers who fought for our country. They fought for peace, justice and liberty. Remembrance day is celebrated all over the country. We are very grateful for the brave soldiers who risked their lives for our safety. We remember how loyal, noble, and courageous they were. We remember how their actions have a great impact on us now and not just then. They’ve made a great difference in our society.
The history of Remembrance day involves its beginnings on November 11th, 1918, with the signing of armistice at 11am to mark the guns falling silent in the First World War. Men volunteered and were sent away to fight against other countries while women took on important roles as nurses and on the homefront, working on farms and in factories.
We take this day, November 11th, to respect and appreciate the soldiers who have served Canada as members of the military, and in particular, those who have died in service. We wear a poppy on our chest to show our appreciation, gratefulness and honour their sacrifices. On the 11th day of the 11th month, at the 11th hour, we pause for a moment of silene to think of and show gratitude to the soldiers who were lost serving our country.
