Huskies Make A Racket

Updated: May 5, 2022

Sacred Heart’s badminton teams started off their season with a bang in their respective first tournaments. Almost every player qualified for the next round in the junior tournament, and one qualified for the seniors.

The junior badminton tournament took place April 5th at Confederation High School and the Huskies came ready to play. The team had two third place finishes, two second place finishes and one first place finish. Chloe Roswell placed third in the girls’ singles division but unfortunately, despite a fantastic performance, did not qualify for the next round. Liam Shannon placed second in the boys’ singles finals and will be advancing to the next tournament. Parker and Hunter Evans used their brotherly connection to place second in the boys’ doubles division and qualified for the conference finals as well. Liam Guillemette and Lei-Lei Fan-Saschenbrecker proved to be a dynamic duo in the mixed doubles division as they placed third overall and qualified for the next round. Finally, Meiji Li and Ashley Fowler brought home first place in the girls’ doubles division and no doubt moved on to the next tournament.

The senior tournament wasn’t quite as successful, but Sacred Heart will still be represented in the Western conference tournament as Olivia Roswell finished second and qualified to move on. All of the seniors played hard, wore the Husky colours with pride, and gave the school a good name in its first return to badminton.

Congratulations to all the badminton players on a successful two tournaments and good luck to those participating in the Western conference finals, which will take place on Wednesday April 20th for the juniors and Friday April 22nd for the seniors.
