Education Week

What a gift it was to have the Annual Education Week Cake Auction return to Sacred Heart! It’s one of our school’s most treasured and unique traditions. Not only does it raise lots of money for good charities, but we all get to indulge in some amazing looking (and tasting!) cakes and have fun with our school spirit. It has been dearly missed during the COVID-19 pandemic and everyone was very excited for its return. Friday May 6th was the day! The artistic talent shown in the cakes was outstanding! Its prime advertisers, Emmanuel and Ethan, should take pride from promoting the auction and making people laugh every morning on the announcements with their cake-themed raps and jokes. We ended up raising nearly 50 000 dollars in proceeds that went to 20 different charities including the Stittsville Food Bank, Wounded Warriors Canada, Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Cancer Society, and many more. Thank you to all those who brought in donations – every bit makes a difference – and a big thank you to Mr. Brisson’s leadership class, who organized the event this year. Sacred Heart is already looking forward to the next one.

In Ontario, Education Week is the first full week in May, which, this year, is the 2nd to the 6th. It’s a time dedicated to being thankful for our education, appreciating our teachers and school staff, and being proud of student accomplishments. The theme for the 2022 Education Week is “Igniting Hope”; staying positive and lively and resilient, especially during these trying times.

Each day focuses on a specific kind of hope. Monday was about “Hope in Christ” and hope for the ones we love. The goal of the week was to write a hopeful message or drawing or find something in nature that you think sparks hope, and send a picture of it to someone new everyday. On Monday, it was for someone you love. On Tuesday, the day of hope within us, it was for one of our educators. On Wednesday, with the theme of hope among us, the messages were for our leaders; in our school, church, government, or community. Thursday, the day of hope for the world, was also the day our kind messages went to those in need and those who care for them; someone you know that is sick or going through a hard time, someone who is in a hospital or nursing home, and those who are trying to help. Lastly, on our day of hope for the future, we sent lovely letters and pictures to ourselves. Never forget to take care of yourself, too.
