Stacy White is a newer teacher at Sacred Heart High School. Before the pandemic, in 2019, she was a student-teacher assisting in math classes. This year, she joined Sacred Heart and is working as a full-time teacher. Before her career as a teacher, she worked at a math center where she helped kids improve and learn more. She has also done private math tutoring. These jobs gave Ms. White the experience needed to become a teacher. Math isn’t the only interest of Ms. White; she also likes to try new hobbies outside of her school commitments. Over the summer she taught herself how to play the ukulele and has even tried longboarding which is a kind of skateboarding. When she was younger Ms. White was actually unsure if she would like teaching, because she was shy and hated public speaking. But one thing she did love was helping her friends when they were having trouble understanding the concepts they learned in math and science. Her grade 9 English teacher was the one who convinced her that even though she disliked public speaking,
“teaching in front of a class was a completely different feeling.”
Ms. White says she is very happy that she listened to her! Ms. White says interacting with all different personalities in the classroom is one of her favourite parts of teaching. She finds it really rewarding when she can help a student become more confident in their abilities and watch them succeed.
