Be a Buddy!!

Updated: Dec 20, 2022

In recognition of Anti-bullying Week, for the week of November 20th-26th, Sacred Heart’s students participated in the annual Be-A-Buddy week. Every day of the week, homeroom teachers were encouraged to present an informative slideshow to their classes on different types of bullying, how to recognize bullying and how to prevent/stop bullying.

The week started with Movement Monday, which refers to campaigns for political, social, and artistic ideas, not the act of moving. On Monday morning, the song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me by Randy Newman played through the halls before homeroom, and the announcements stressed the saying, “be a buddy, not a bully.” At lunch, students were encouraged to write down a family tradition and stick it on a board in the atrium to introduce students to the diverse cultures present at the school.

Tuesday was dubbed “Tech Tuesday” and was focused on cyberbullying. The challenge of the day was to text kind messages to friends and family the fastest during a texting race with a buddy.

On Wellness Wednesday, students wore pink to show support for anti-bullying initiatives. Additionally, the day’s focus was on self-care, and there was a colouring contest hosted by Student Services.

Thursday, students were taught how to be a true allies, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community.

To end the week, students painted a fingernail blue, and Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and the gang were seen around the school for You've Got a Friend in Me Day
